About Us
Headwaters provides mitigation banking services to restore, enhance and preserve wetlands, streams and other natural resources. Our team is capable of handling every aspect of the mitigation banking process, including initial site evaluation, coordination with regulatory agencies, wetland and stream design, construction and construction oversight, agency site visits, credit release activities and long-term bank monitoring and credit sales. We have worked with both federal and state agencies across the Southeast to implement quality mitigation in the form of mitigation banks, in-lieu fee programs, and permittee-responsible mitigation.
Our more than 120 years of combined experience encompasses wetland and stream permitting and restoration, mitigation planning, and establishing mitigation banks across the Southeast. We work with engineers, ecologists, biologists, chemists, geologists, and survey specialists to provide a unique, interdisciplinary approach to mitigation. Headwaters has implemented more than 160,000 linear feet of streams in multiple physiographic provinces, as well as in both urban and rural environments. We utilize various stream assessment and design methods, including Rosgen stream classification, ecological assessment protocols, and natural channel design.
To date, we have consulted in the successful approval of numerous mitigation banks throughout the Southeast, with several bank sites in various stages of the interagency review process. We have also evaluated bank sites throughout the region, including in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, South Carolina and Tennessee.
Headwaters is working to integrate construction into our suite of services, allowing us to take an integrated permitting, design and construction approach. Due to the complex nature of stream restoration projects, we have found that it takes a cohesive team of permitting specialists, designers and construction experts to provide the most efficient delivery method.
